Aleks Sennwald started out in Colombia, but spent formative years in Italy, Switzerland, and France. The first thing she recalls drawing was a pair of red shoes so real, she knocked her own socks off. Today, her illustrations originate somewhere in the northeastern U.S., in a book-lined room on a tree-lined street.

She navigates new vistas with the aid of pencil, ink, acrylic, and the stalwart Wacom tablet. Her art often contains fantastical ingredients, its vigor whispered by muted colors and squall-swift lines that almost oscillate off the page.
