Maxwell Holyoke-Hirsch was raised by artists in San Diego, with paint splatters and graphite smudges marking his early life. As he grew, so did his hunger for bold new colors, so he moved North. He can often be found inspecting the hidden, foggy thoroughfares of San Francisco, where he lives and works.

An array of materials give rise to Maxwell's images, from wood to wax to manually moiled squid ink. Delicate notions emerge from singed and stormy linework. No matter the subject, his work thrives on thematic opposition, controlled chaos, and quesadillas.
