by Art Director Giorgia Virgili at Stanford Magazine to illustrate the winning story from their fiction contest, “The Man Who Dropped Clocks.”

Pora Vellum is a grandfather living in a beach cottage in a small village a hundred miles outside of Bombay. With his wife’s passing and his only son moving out into the city, he becomes consumed with fixing old clocks. He longs for the past, is hesitant to accept the present, and “...could sink into the depths of his hammock never to emerge.”

Written by Ann Newton Holmes, this is a sensitive and heartfelt story about a man who wants to hold on to time.
