

This job for More Magazine started off with a few restrictions. There were other illustrations in the issue that were already using clocks, time, and flowers as part of their concepts. These, of course, were all things that would have lent themselves well to the “late bloomer” idea that was central to the article I was illustrating.
The concept of an emerging butterfly coupled with a fall background turned out to be a good replacement for the ideas of “bloom” and “late”. It also turned out to be really a fun one to paint. Just goes to show how weird limitations can sometimes work to your advantage!
