This is a recent illustration I did for Swerve Magazine. Danae Thompson is art director there, and has a knack for assigning subject matter that is pretty interesting for me. A couple of weeks ago she emailed me with an assignment about a woman who is fascinated by the Lizzie Borden axe murder story. My image solution involved a reconstruction of sorts, using the evidence and the crime scene. I designed a Lizzie themed pattern to stand in for the Victorian wallpaper. For the portrait, I wanted to capture a ghostly expression. We decided to crop out the figure looking into the mirror to add to the ghostliness factor.

Beautiful and haunting work!! Perfectly executed!

Those piercing eyes actually made me cry in pure creeped out fear. Regardless, the Borden family has really nice taste in wallpaper; I’d like to see you tackle more pattern design. Nice work G!
