A more worked-up sketch that led to the final

Here’s a beauty done for the good folks at Popular Mechanics. As you can probably see, it’s about supercavitating mine-clearing bullets. They travel through the water without ever actually touching it, each shot guided by a laser from the originating helicopter. It was a challenge and a privilege, as, let’s face it, I do draw a lot of people. Now, however, I draw helicopters and everything else. The designers were good enough to build the layout around the final. More about this project at the SPD blog.

Couldn’t have asked for a better opportunity to take a technical drawing and turn it into an illustration.
